Reconstitution Guide
How to prepare lyophilized peptides with bacteriostatic water
01 What is bacteriostatic water?
Bacteriostatic water (BW) is sterile water for injection that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. This compound inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the vial to be used multiple times (multi-dose) without contamination.
- Not the same as water for injection (which is single-dose and has no preservative)
- Not physiological saline (does not contain NaCl)
- Not distilled water (not sterile, not suitable for injection)
02 Materials needed
03 Reconstitution step by step
Prepare the environment
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use a clean, disinfected surface. Gather all materials before starting.
Disinfect the vials
Clean the rubber septum of both vials (peptide and bacteriostatic water) with an alcohol swab. Wait 30 seconds for it to dry completely.
Draw the bacteriostatic water
Insert the sterile needle through the rubber septum of the bacteriostatic water vial. Invert the vial and carefully draw the calculated volume.
Add water to the peptide vial
Insert the needle into the peptide vial septum. Direct the water toward the glass wall (never directly onto the powder) to avoid protein denaturation. Apply slowly.
Dissolve gently
Do NOT shake. Swirl gently in circular motions or roll the vial between your palms until the powder is completely dissolved. The solution should be clear.
Inspect the solution
Check that there are no visible particles. The solution should be clear and colorless (some peptides may have a slightly yellowish tint). If you see particles, do not use.
Label the vial
Write the date of reconstitution and the concentration (mg/mL) on the vial with a permanent marker.
Store properly
Store the reconstituted vial in the refrigerator at 2–8°C, away from light. See the specific storage time for each peptide.
04 Dose calculator
Enter your vial size and desired dose. The calculator recommends the optimal volume of bacteriostatic water and generates a complete dosing table in insulin units.
05 Injection technique (subcutaneous)
Injection sites
Abdomen (2–5 cm from navel), outer thigh, or back of arm. Rotate sites each injection.
Technique
Pinch skin and fat with 2 fingers. Insert needle at 45–90°. Release fold, inject slowly, withdraw and press for 5–10 sec.
Temperature
Take the vial out of the fridge 15–30 min before injection. Cold solutions may be more uncomfortable.
Disposal
Dispose of needles and syringes in a sharps container. Never recap used needles.
